TREATMENT

Treatment of tuberculosis takes approximately six to nine months and sometimes more than that. TB can be cured in all cases by taking the medicines as prescribed by your doctor for the full course of treatment. It is actuallyessential to take all your pills, to kill the TB germs completely.The treatment is ordinarily a mixture of four antibiotics such as- Pyrazinamide, Isoniazid, Rifampicin and Ethambutol.they all can come in 1 tablet known as Rifater and after two months you can change to two antibiotics, Rifampicin and Isoniazid which comes in a single tablet known as Rifinah.

 Speak to your TB doctor about any other medications if you are taking. If the medications lead to some side effects inform your doctor immediately. Take your tablets daily and do not stop taking them, even if you feel better. Symptoms of TB in the lungs may include

 

  • A bad cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer
  • Weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
  • Coughing up blood or mucus
  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Fever
  • Night sweats

Skin tests, blood tests, x-rays, and other tests can tell if you have TB. If not treated properly, TB can be deadly. You can usually cure active TB by taking several medicines for a long period of time.
